The Inspiration for Ride the Wind

The story was inspired by my family’s love of Australia, combined with my granddaughters’ passion for horses. On my first visit to Australia in 2004, just in time to celebrate Chaney’s fifth birthday, I read Black Beauty to them as a bedtime story. Dakota and Chaney thoroughly enjoyed the storyline. On my next visit in 2008, I read The Hobbit to them, and it was at that time that they begged me to draft a story for them which combined elements from both books. That was how Ride the Wind came about.
Austin Macauley will be publishing two further books for me this year. One is entitled The Satin Moth and the other is a sequel to Ride the Wind, entitled Ride the Waves.
All three books contain common themes, including, horses, dogs, animals of varying kinds and details concerning the natural environment. The perfect read therefore for nature lovers. However the strongest link between each book is that the central characters, i.e. the characters which drive the storyline are all females. As such, the stories are highly empowering for women and girls. There are compelling, robust male characters too, giving each story balance and diversity.
I make no secret of the fact that many of the characters are based on real people and real animals.
It is my pleasure to enclose actual photographs of the individuals these characters were derived from.
